The ad-hoc Senior Resources Committee was formed to explore ways to assist seniors in Belgrade. Among the committee's ongoing efforts are the development of a trifold broachure with vital and helpful resource and contact information. In May 2020, the committee plans to conduct a survey (paper-based and online) to ensure the areas on which it is working are those that are most needed. The information will be used in grant applications to support the group's endeavors.
Belgrade has applied for and been granted membership in AARP’s Network of Age-Friendly Communities. This gives Belgrade access to all of the programs being used successfully in in other network communities. It also provides information on grants for communities working on becoming more “age-friendly."
The committee is also developing programs to help. There is currently a Neighbors Driving Neighbors program for Belgrade and adjacent towns. The committee hopes to develop a Neighbors Helping Neighbors program and a Morning Calls program, the latter to provide daily communications for those wanting a check in. If the call isn’t answered, a state trooper or county deputy will be asked to do a wellness check.
The program needs volunteers and committee members, and, with some effort, a paid coordinator. If you would like to participate, please drop in or call the Town Office at 207-495-2258. The Town staff will give your information to a committee member.
Long-range plans include exploring a senior center in Belgrade and an assisted living facility for those not wanting to leave Belgrade.
